GarnachaTintorera

UNIQUE VARIETY

Garnacha Tintorera grape origin

Garnacha Tintorera is the variety par excellence in our fields and the hallmark of Tintoralba. It is considered autochthonous within our region due to its acclimatization and adaptation to the conditions of our soil, altitude and climate, which has given rise to a unique and differentiated product, very difficult to find anywhere else in the world.

Also known by the name of Alicante Bouschet, Grenache Tintorera originated in France with the crossing of Petit Bouschet and Grenache made by Henri Bouschet in 1855. From there it spread to several areas such as Alentejo in Portugal, California in the USA and several regions in Spain, being in the D.O. Almansa where it has achieved its maximum expression, becoming the majority grape of the region, especially in the highest areas.

Different on the inside

Garnacha Tintorera is our native grape variety. It is peculiar because its pulp is fleshy and colored and an intense red juice is obtained from it.

Tintoralba wines made with Garnacha Tintorera are surprisingly unique: unexpected, intense, with a marked fruitiness and differentiating character. They flood the palate with notes of black pepper, bright black olive, dark chocolate, red fruits, licorice and an herbaceous character that provides freshness and softness.

Much more than color

Our wine belongs to one of the nine wine regions of Castilla La Mancha, located within the Almansa Denomination of Origin. Our winery is located in a typical village of La Mancha, Higueruela. It has a perfect location to produce the best wine. It is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level and barely 100 kilometers from the Mediterranean.

The chalky soils, with a sandy texture and little bottom, result in excellent grapes.

The climate that accompanies the land is also suitable, with extreme temperatures in summer and winter. A combination that results in slow grape ripening and low production.

Pioneers in the production of bottled Garnacha Tintorera wines

Tintoralba and the diffusion of
Garnacha Tintorera

The Tintoralba project was born in 2004 within the Santa Quiteria cooperative to highlight the full potential of Garnacha Tintorera and was a pioneer in the promotion of bottled Garnacha Tintorera wines. The first single-varietal Garnacha Tintorera wines were bottled under the guidance of our multifaceted, restless and great winemaker Pedro Sarrión. Young carbonic maceration, crianza and sweet wines have highlighted the quality of our grapes and their potential for making quality wines.

Numerous national and international awards, good ratings and reviews from leading wine gurus, and most importantly, the loyalty and support of our customers, endorse the work done over the years and help us to improve every day to meet our main objective: to reach your table so you can enjoy the full flavor of our wines.

Garnacha Tintorera wine pairings

In Tintoralba we elaborate different styles of wines. From young wines, where fruit and freshness are very present, to more complex wines, aged in oak barrels and coming from our oldest vineyards.

Food and wine pairing is not an exact science and is influenced by personal and cultural tastes. We give you a guideline but we encourage you to try and develop your own criteria.

Our young wines go perfectly with light dishes, salads, vegetables, rice, pasta, white meats, fish, cheeses... Ideal for drinking alone or with tapas at any time of the day.

The wines with 3 or 4 months in barrel, Tintoralba Roble and Tintoralba Ecológico, also pair very well with the above dishes and will fit perfectly with all kinds of grilled meats, pâtés, cheeses and barbecued meats.

Crianza red wines go very well with hearty dishes such as stews, casseroles, red meat dishes, cured cheeses and Iberian sausages.

Sweet wines are always a delight and can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with your favorite desserts. Chocolate is the choice par excellence but we encourage you to try them with fruit, blue cheese and appreciate the contrast.
